When it came time to pick a college, he made an Illinois choice, enrolling at Northwestern University in Evanston. The school of engineering at Northwestern was also the place where he met his wife, Carol. Later on, he worked for his medical degree at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago. It was only for his internship and residency that he gave another state a chance.
Dr. Phipps had decided well before then that his area of medicine would be family practice. He is now certified by the American Board of Family Practice, and he also has earned the title of Fellow and Diplomate with the American Academy of Family Practice.
Growing up, the future doctor was a sports enthusiast. Everything his medical training taught him only reinforced his belief in fitness, and today he still gives high priority to athletics. This is evidenced by the many sports that Dr. Phipps, his wife, and their two children enjoy.
